Nowadays, the parish of Saint Michel Archange of Bodo (which has ceased to belong to the great diocese of Moundou to integrate into the new diocese of Doba in 1989), is formed by ten sectors of apostolate in its territory. In the area of the center -Naïm -  counts with a large church (built in 2009), an associated Catholic school (ECA) under the patronage of Sainte Joséphine Bakhita started in 2000, a Health Center: Saint Francis (created in 1994) and the Cultural Center «Michel Russo».

Located southeast of the diocese of Doba, the parish of Saint Michel Archange of Bodo was erected on 25 February 1962. At the beginning of its erection Saint Michel Archange was a large parish that took over the whole department of Kuh-West and much of the Béti Prefecture. But in 2002, the apostolate sectors of Béboto, Baké, Bebo and Tadamti became a new parish, under the patronage of Saint Matthias Mulumba de Béboto. The same was true of the two sectors of the apostolate Bégada and Ndokobo, in the Subprefecture of Béti, which have since been linked to the new parish Mary Help of Christians in Béti, which was also erected in 2006.

From the date of its erection until its 60th birthday, in its growth, our parish has known laborious work of synodality. Religious priests, diocesan priests and laity have worked in communion for its edification with their participation and their commitment. Here are the long periods in which religious congregations and diocesan priests have worked with the laity:

  • From 1962 to 1976, the congregation of the French Capuchin religious
  • From 1976 to 1978, Italian priests (Fidei domum)
  • From 1979 to 1984, ad interim, the Congregation of the Comboni Missionaries from Doba
  • From 1984 to 1986, a lay committee manages the activities of the parish in the absence of the Fathers during the war period
  • From 1986 to 1996, Chadian priests
  • From 1997 to 2022 the Congregation of the Comboni Missionaries

The Congregation of the Alcantarine Franciscan Sisters has arrived since 1993 and works in close collaboration with all the other pastoral agents.

Nowadays, the parish of Saint Michel Archange moves on the two axes of diocesan pastoral. This is the pastoral axis of the proclamation of the Word of God and that of the social pastoral.

As regards the pastoral ministry of proclaiming the Word of God, it is carried out in the ten areas of the apostolate that make up the parish. In each of these ten areas of the apostolate, an animator catechist is appointed to coordinate the activities of the Christian communities and the Catholic Action Movements in the sector. This animator works in close collaboration with the pastor moderator of the parish and also with the Father or Sister in charge (e) of monitoring the sector.

As for the axis of social pastoral, it is carried out in the field of education and health. Many lay faithful participate in it with their service. There are teachers and teachers, nurses and nurses who collaborate every year for the smooth running of the Sainte Joséphine Bakhita School and the Centre de santé Saint François.

In the light of these 60 years of the parish of Saint Michel Archange of Bodo, it is very important to emphasize some signs of hope that show that this parish is on its way. It should be noted that:

  • An important number of adolescents and young people participating in catechesis and baptism.
  • Two sons of this parish are consecrated diocesan priests: Fr. Richard NADJIADOUM in June 2015 and Fr. Fidèle MBAINDIGUIM in May 2016.
  • Two other children are in formation to respond to the vocation of consecrated life: the novice Denis MBAIORNOM at the Noviciate Sainte Croix of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus in Sarh and the seminarian Hervé TOGBE at the Grand Séminaire Saint MBANGA Tuzindé in Sarh.
  • Some Christian communities that come together under the action of the Holy Spirit to build the chapel in their village.
  • A monthly meeting of formation of young people by area that awakens some of them over the last three years.

All these signs show that God continues to act in the hearts of his faithful in this parish and patiently accompanies them in their spiritual, pastoral and synodal growth. The Holy Spirit will certainly act in the hearts of the young people of Saint Michel de Bodo to respond to God’s call, to married life, to priestly life or to religious life.
